Why register?
Registration with the Accommodation Service is the first step to finding somewhere to live in Cambridge. We have an extensive list of University-owned and privately-owned properties on our database.
When should I register?
There is no need to register more than 5 months before you intend to arrive in Cambridge. This is because we only receive notification that a University property will become available two to three months beforehand. Privately-owned properties may not be advertised with much more than a month or two before they become available. Occasionally, a landlord will advertise with several months' notice, if they are going on sabbatical leave.
Who can register for this service?
This service is primarily for the use and benefit of University members.
We sometimes provide assistance to non-members for a fee, provided that there are reasonable connections to the University.
Applicants wishing to share University-owned accommodation:
Please note that, if you would like to share a University-owned residence with others who are not members of your immediate family, you must seek permission from the Accommodation Service BEFORE accepting a property offer. Only members of the University are eligible to share on this basis, and each request will be considered individually. If you accept an offer of a tenancy before disclosing that you wish to share with others, the Accommodation Service reserves the right to decline permission to do so, and it is possible that this could be considered a breach of your tenancy.
How do I register?
You can sign up to the Accommodation Service using your University Raven login. If you do not have a Raven account, you can still complete the registration form.
Please note, however, that a Raven account will not be accepted as proof of University Membership and we may contact you to provide additional details if necessary.
To help speed up the verification process, we will ask you to provide the following details on the registration form:
- The name of the department at which you will be working
- The name of your contact in that department/college
- A title for what you will be doing (your academic status)
- You may also supply (if you have them)
- Your University Student Number
- Your Computer Services ID (the first part of your @cam.ac.uk email address).
If you are NOT a member you will also be asked to tell us.
- The academic institution to which you currently belong
- Your connection to the University of Cambridge, if you are not attached to a department
How long does the registration process take?
Your application will be processed by a member of staff normally within 3 working days and we will contact you if a fee applies.
